Chasing Alaska Wildflowers for Senior Pictures
We photographed this senior session around Turnagain Pass, where the Alaska wildflowers were absolutely beautiful. Lupine, daisies, and all kinds of other little wildflowers were growing everywhere, giving us the perfect backdrop for her senior portraits. If you have been following me for long, you’ll know how much I love to incorporate flowers in my work!
Then we took it one step further and got in the water.
And yes—it was cold! But sometimes the photographs that take a little extra effort end up being the ones you love the most. Her dress looked incredible in the water, especially surrounded by all of the natural color and texture of an Alaska summer.
Of course, beautiful summer evenings in Alaska also come with one very predictable thing: mosquitoes.
If you're planning an outdoor senior session, especially around water and wildflowers, bring your favorite mosquito repellent. You'll be very glad you did! I also recommend bringing a warm layer that you can throw on between locations. Alaska can look like the perfect summer evening in photographs while feeling a whole lot colder in real life.

Senior pictures are such a great excuse to do something you've always wanted to try. You don't have to choose between traditional senior portraits and something more creative. We can do both.
I want my seniors to end up with a well-rounded collection of images, so I love incorporating different clothing, locations, interests, and ideas throughout a session. We'll create the classic portraits that deserve a place on your parents' wall, but we'll also make room for the photographs that are a little more adventurous and show off your personality.
For this session, that meant wildflowers, a gorgeous dress, bare feet, and getting right into the cold Alaska water. The dress floating through the water gave the portraits an almost fine-art feel and created something completely different from the rest of her senior gallery.
