Lakeside Maternity Portraits in Palmer, Alaska.

There is something incredibly beautiful about photographing motherhood against the wild landscape of Alaska. This maternity session took place at a quiet lake in Palmer, Alaska, surrounded by mountains, water, and the soft natural beauty of the Mat-Su Valley.

Maternity portraits are about more than documenting a growing belly. They capture this short season of anticipation before everything changes and a new little person becomes part of your family.

One of the things I love most about maternity photography in Alaska is the variety we can create without needing an elaborate location. A simple lakeshore can give us sweeping environmental portraits, intimate close-ups, movement, reflections in the water, and dramatic images that showcase both you and the landscape.

What to Wear for Alaska Maternity Photos

Clothing can completely change the look and feel of a maternity session. Long dresses photograph beautifully outdoors because they add movement and shape, especially when we have a little Alaska breeze.

I love choosing colors and textures that complement the landscape while still allowing you to stand out. Depending on your style, that might mean something soft and romantic, simple and timeless, or a little more dramatic.

The goal isn't for your maternity photos to look like everyone else's. I want them to feel like you. You can always go with a classic jean and a white t-shirt. I think it so cute to have a cute t-shirt that lets the pregnancy belly show!

When Should You Schedule Maternity Photos?

Most maternity sessions are photographed between approximately 28 and 38 weeks, when your belly is beautifully defined but you're hopefully still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience.

Every pregnancy is different, though, so we can plan your session around what works best for you.

If you're hoping for outdoor maternity photos in Alaska, I also recommend getting on my calendar early. Our seasons are short, weather can change quickly, and summer and fall dates can fill up.
